Big News!

Yesterday I shared a vague message on my Facebook Fan Page about some upcoming news. I’m flattered that quite a lot of people thought the news was that one of my books was being turned into a movie or television show, but sadly that’s not the case. One of these days, perhaps, but today is not that day.

The news I was hinting at is something that absolutely NO one was expecting from me. Not even my wife, who called me yesterday after my post to ask, ‘What the hell are you talking about? What’s the secret?’ I hadn’t even told her what was going on. And because I’m a fan of suspense, I’m going to string you on for a few more seconds here. Keep reading, I’ll reveal it in a second.

It was in November of 2011 that I published my first novella, Deadlocked. What started as a passion project ended up stretching through 8 books (9 with the Broken Pieces book), and helped launch my writing career. Other books came along, including the extremely popular 314 trilogy and the Lincoln Pierce Mysteries, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the way my fans have gone with me along the way, dipping their toes into new waters with each book I put out. I’ve always tried to keep from getting bogged down in one genre or style, and my fans have been willing to go on this journey with me. Well, now I’m going to take another turn, and I hope you’re on board for this ride as well. However, this turn’s going to feel a little familiar at first.

Some fans who’ve been around since the beginning have been begging me to return to the Deadlocked series. Let me immediately squash that hope, because that’s not the announcement. However, I think those fans are going to find themselves delighted by what I am announcing, because it’s of a similar vein.

All right, that’s enough being vague. Time for the news!

The next book I’m releasing is going to be called, ‘Dave vs the Apocalypse’.

This book came out of nowhere, and it’s going to take a little explaining on my part. Most of you were expecting me to release the next book in the Among the Masses series, or the next Lincoln Pierce novel. And while those books are both on their way, I got a little sidetracked. Well, to be honest, I got A LOT sidetracked and a little saved. Let me explain.

Both the Among the Masses series and the Lincoln Pierce Mysteries books are headed down dark, dark roads. In Among the Masses, Saffi and her friends are going to be facing some harsh realities, and the entire premise of the books is about to come into focus. That series is all about death and dealing with the loss of a loved one, which are heavy topics. Then you’ve got the Lincoln Pierce series, which has a prominent character suffering a life-threatening disease that I’ve become all too familiar with in real life recently. Both of these series delve into some pretty awful, painful areas, and have forced me to stare some of my own fears right in the face. They’re tough to write, and both of those books are about to get really, really rough. While writing them, I found myself needing a reason to step away, which led me to ‘Dave’.

‘Dave vs the Apocalypse’ is a more lighthearted exploration of the apocalypse. It’s still going to be filled with monsters (not zombies – you’ll just have to wait and see what they are), blood, gore, and horror, but the main character doesn’t take himself too seriously, and he’s quick to quip about what’s going on. This book is my escapism, and I was originally writing it for fun. Then I just kept going with it, and going with it, and going with it until I realized the book had taken over and was demanding a release.

As I’m nearing completion, I’m starting to think this one’s got the potential to be the most popular book I’ve ever written. However, I can’t afford to rely on luck and hope it finds its audience. This time around, I’m going to make sure to do everything I can to get the word out about this release, which is good news for you! Over the course of the rest of October, I’m going to be holding a variety of contests and giveaways, as well as frequent teases about the book, here on the site. I’m going to be doing some things I’ve never done before, including rewarding fans who go out of their way to support me. So get ready, everyone, because the apocalypse is coming whether you’re ready for it or not!

The photo used in this article was done by Jeremy Forson, and could be a little bit of a spoiler about the monsters in this book. Hint hint.
